Toulouse: one month after the end of the strike, uneasiness among garbage collectors
A month since their movement was lifted. The refusal to stagger the collection of strike days and the new working methods cause unease among garbage collectors.
The agreement was not celebrated and yet, the hour is with the hangover at the garbage collectors. After an all-out resumption of work to make up for the delay during the 52-day conflict, they are disappointed. In the middle of February, the metropolitan agents learned that Toulouse Métropole refused to spread the levy of their strike days.
“The president of Toulouse Métropole, Jean-Luc Moudenc, had been clear: no day of strike will be paid. At the end of one of our meetings with management, on a request for the spread. We got a refusal. If agents were really determined to obtain this spread, they will come up against heavy admiring procedures”, protests Benoit Fontanilles, general secretary of the independent union FAFPT 31. He believes that a garbage collector who participated in the entire waste collection strike bins lost almost 1,400 euros.
Turned in circles
The agents in charge of waste collection, for the past month, have been working differently. The law on the transformation of the public service, which came into force on January 1, has changed their habits. The day now ends at noon, compared to a few hours earlier a few weeks ago. Garbage collectors no longer run behind the truck. The new instructions cause an incomplete collection. “I wanted to call you to tell you that the collection, currently, is big nonsense. We don’t know when to take out the trash. We have to call Toulouse Métropole for them to be provided, ”says a resident of Aussonne.
The new regulations would therefore have reshuffled the cards. The tours would be too large for the teams. According to Benoit Fontanilles, at the Colomiers depot, the 13 sectors would be completed every day. The miracle recipe? 18 trucks would come out instead of the 13 initially planned. The trade unionist indicates that the private companies, called in reinforcement during the strike, would still bring their contribution in a collection still lagging behind.
