The Verona Arena is transformed into a “museum of itself” – Veneto

Superintendence project, history between archeology and opera

(ANSA) – VERONA, 04 MAR – The Arena of Verona becomes a “museum of itself” to tell a story that spans two thousand years, from Roman times to the Middle Ages, passing from the Risorgimento to today. A path that will focus on the two “souls” of the amphitheater, that of the real monument and the one that makes it the temple of music par excellence. An idea that is realized through the concept developed by the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage and by the Municipality, a project that will change the use of the amphitheater and its enhancement throughout the year. The arches will become small museum rooms, there will be a permanent bookshop and cafeteria, in line with the aim of equipping the entire civic museum system with adequate and modern spaces and services. Visitors will find the finds that the monument itself has “returned” during the archaeological campaigns of recent decades, from coins to tools to the exceptional burials that emerged in recent months, which will be exhibited. And then maps, documents, images and photographs, which will testify to the extraordinary experience of the Arena and will involve visitors in an emotional journey that in the summer season will take them directly to the dressing rooms of the artists of the opera season. The Arena Foundation also collaborates on the project, which is part of the important enhancement and use of the Arena, which began in 2019 thanks to the 14 million euro loan made available by Unicredit Banca and Fondazione Cariverona with the Art Bonus. is available to rationalize spaces by virtue of the creation of the museum.
