the Springbok Rynhardt Elstadt looks back on his months of struggle
Zapping World Fifteen RUGBY CHAMPIONSHIP: The editorial team’s dream XV
Injuries are part of the daily life of top athletes in all disciplines. This is particularly the painful experience that Rynhardt Elstadt has had in recent months.
Indeed, the third line of the reigning French champion club was injured and took longer than expected to find the rugby pitches. A long period of scarcity for one of the most experienced players at Stade Toulousain.
Questioned by Rugbyrama, the Springbok delivered without concessions:
”I injured my ankle in training with South Africa, just after the first test match against the British and Irish Lions. I thought it was just a sprain, but it was actually a little more than that. In the end, it was super long for me.
Normally, I had five weeks. And then it lasted five months, six months, seven months… It was really complicated. In the head, it was extremely hard. There is pain all the time… It’s always super complicated for a player. Plus you can’t drive for example, so there’s a lot of frustration.”
to summarize
Rynhardt Elstadt has returned from his long absence after an ankle injury with the South African team. He is now ready to help the team get back to the top.
