Presidential: candidates for the commemoration of the attacks in Toulouse and Montauban
Several presidential candidates will take part in the commemoration of the attacks in Toulouse and Montauban organized by the CRIF on March 20 where “extremes are not welcome”.
Because the commemoration takes place in the middle of the presidential campaign – like the attacks ten years ago – and because the messages are aimed primarily at politicians, presidential candidates will be present at the event organized on March 20 by the CRIF d’Occitanie at the Halle aux grains pay tribute to the victims of the Islamist attacks in Toulouse and Montauban. Some are first by virtue of their function, Emmanuel Macron, the President of the Republic, now a candidate, but also Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of Paris, because Franck Touboul, the president of CRIF invited “all the mayors impacted by terrorism for ten years”, such as those of Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray, Nice, Marseille… At a meeting in Toulouse on March 18, after having first planned this event for March 19, the anniversary of the attacks, Valérie Pécresse received an invitation. Franck Touboul also had indirect contact with Yannick Jadot who indicated that he could not be present on the 20th but that he would have to pay a tribute when he came to the Pink City on the 16th. The president of CRIF finally indicated want to invite the communist candidate Fabien Roussel.
Unsurprisingly, on the other hand, Franck Touboul clearly states that “extremes of all stripes are not welcome in the front row, including Eric Zemmour, given his remarks about the Jewish children of the school”. This concerns both Marine Le Pen and Jean-Luc Mélenchon.
If politics is not absent from the meeting, it is not political politics or even the campaign that are invited. It is indeed the commemoration that presides, underlines Franck Touboul, that is to say “the sincere tribute to the victims”, “the work on the problem of Islamism” and the need “to mark the national union in this fight”.
