LXVII COSAC: Lithuania supports Ukraine’s application for Ukraine’s candidate status for the European Union

On March 3-5, Arminas Lydeka, Deputy Chairman of the Seimas Committee on European Affairs, Aurelijus Veryga, Deputy Chairman of the Committee, Domas Griškevičius and Matas Maldeikis, members of the Committee, chair the LXVII Plenary Session of the Conference of Parliamentary Committees for Union Affairs (COSAC).
March 4 Preliminary results of the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union discussed at the first session of the meeting are taking place.
A. Veryga, the deputy chairman of the committee, emphasized that Lithuania supports Ukraine’s application for Ukraine’s status as an EU candidate country and that Ukraine continues to provide all possible bilateral military, economic, political, humanitarian and legal assistance. “Decent-free EU decisions have been taken, which we could even think about two weeks ago: on the sanctions sector and on individuals, on financial support for Ukraine and support under the European peace system.” – The representative of Lithuania spoke.
Mr Veryga thanked the French Presidency at this particularly difficult European time for its great efforts to coordinate with the EU institutions and international partners the response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, as well as for its rapid engagement in crisis preparedness and coordinating responses to this insane aggression. “We must be resolute and united in securing a European future for the aggressors fighting Ukraine. “Ukraine is showing more than ever its strong commitment to the European path, defending European values on its territory,” he said.
He also emphasized the need to continue the EU’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and to coordinate reductions. “Further efforts are needed to strengthen the EU’s global solidarity, not only through the sharing of vaccines, but also by increasing the vaccination capacity of recipients and the resilience of health systems.” – spoke politics.
COSAC (Conference of Parliamentary Committees for Union Affairs) is a conference of members of the European Affairs Committees of the national parliaments of the Member States of the European Union and of the European Parliament. It is a six-monthly forum that can adopt any proposal to the European Parliament, the Council and the Commission. This conference encourages the exchange of information and best practices between national parliaments and the European Parliament.
