Help for people with disabilities in Ukraine
The Progetto Sorriso, Batticinque and Attiva-Mente associations, with the hope that this note will find the greatest possible dissemination and effective feedback, signal the possibility of allocating an economic contribution to support Fight for Right (www.ffr.org.ua) , a non-governmental organization that deals with the protection of people with disabilities in Ukraine and the protection and respect of Human Rights. At the moment, the safety and health of three million people with disabilities is seriously jeopardized by Russian war incursions in every part of the country.
Physical, sensory, intellectual disabilities, many of whom were living in an emergency situation since the beginning of the conflict in 2014 and needed humanitarian assistance. A week after the Russian invasion, bringing aid and managing evacuation operations is now very problematic since no vehicles are allowed to enter the country. In a situation of war, a series of obstacles emerge in their full force; barriers for those who cannot move, the lack of attention and related protocols for the rescue and protection of people with intellectual disabilities or, for example, the lack of information that can be used by people with visual or hearing disabilities in relation to their safety . Without forgetting how in a situation of war prejudice and indifference manifest themselves with greater resurgence towards the most vulnerable among the vulnerable, we only think of those people with intellectual disabilities or psychosocial discomfort locked up in institutional structures, 80,000 of these are estimated that in Ukraine they are boys and girls.
Their fate is even more uncertain. By joining international organizations that appeal to disabilities, the San Marino associations invite you to make a possible contribution to Fight for, which has always been active in promoting the rights of people with disabilities and which today fights to evacuate them from both rural and urban conflict zones, Kiev including. Many find themselves, alone and short of food, in basements or in any case remote areas (where they have taken refuge in recent days) unable to move safely to safer locations where they can receive assistance and supplies. Even a little help can make a difference!
