Why AS Monaco boss Dimitri Rybolovlev isn’t worried about sanctions against Russian oligarchs
AS Monaco, unlike Chelsea, were not worried by the situation in Ukraine: Dimitri Rybolovlev is not in the sights of Western sanctions.
An oligarch is not another. If Roman Abramovich, who has links to the Putin system, had to put himself aside at Chelsea where his future is written in dotted lines, Dmitry Rybolovlev was not worried about the situation in Ukraine. At most, we saw the Stade de Reims take a symbolic action by stepping onto the pitch 5 minutes late during its trip to Louis-II, the Champagne club paying Ukrainian players in its ranks.
The reason is simple: Rybolovlev, a wealthy Russian oligarch who has owned AS Monaco since 2011 (and therefore owner, by extension, of… Cercle de Bruges), is not directly linked to Vladimir Poutine. Worse, he was directly opposed to it when the Russian government sued his company Uralkali in 2008, forcing him to sell his parts to relatives of the current Russian president. For several years, Rybolovlev has not even set foot in Russia. The fortune of the (very) rich owner of the ASM owes nothing to Vladimir Putin, it would even be… the opposite. According to The Parisian, Rybolovlev therefore has no intention of withdrawing from the Rock. At the Circle, we will also be delighted…
