The dome of La Grave is on the way to becoming a cultural place in its own right. “The chapel of La Grave is currently closed to the public for a complete renovation which must transform it into an exhibition space“, indicates Toulouse tourist office. After a period of construction with numerous scaffoldings, it’s time for a makeover in order to give the dome a second youth before the summer.
A demolition to improve the view
Like a beacon for the inhabitants of the pink city, the dome of the chapel of La Grave brings its light to the Pont Saint-Pierre. Its restoration and enhancement therefore make it possible to accentuate its assets. The Nanta Pavilion, located within the walls of La Grave, was even demolished in 2021 in order to improve the view of the site from rue du Pont Saint-Pierre. Last straight line now before hosting concerts and exhibitions for the dome.

Workshops for disadvantaged people
As a reminder, the chapel of Saint-Joseph in La Grave takes its name from the ground on which it was built. Built in the XVIIIth century, it is based on a gravel bank relieved by the Garonne. “His consecration to Saint Joseph, patron saint of carpenters, emphasizes the role he cut in the 17th century during the period of the ‘Great Retention of the Poor’. many workshops to train the needy to trades to place them with craftsmen”, relates the tourist office.
