RWE competitor Fortuna Cologne with a surprising home bankruptcy
Cologne.
Rot-Weiss Essen has to take a forced break due to a corona outbreak. Competitor Fortuna Cologne fails against Bonner SC.
After the massive corona outbreak in the regional league leaders Red and white food there is still sporting activity on Hafenstraße. The catch-up game at RW Ahlen had already been canceled on Tuesday because RWE could not muster 16 players who could play. The game on Saturday against SV Lippstadt cannot take place either. For RWE, there was still good reason to be happy in the evening. Second in the table Fortuna Köln made a fool of the relegation candidates Bonner SC and lost 1:2 (0:1). This means that the Cologne team is already four points behind the league leaders with one more game played Red and white food.
Fortuna Cologne gives many chances against Bonner SC
After the 1: 1 at Fortuna Dusseldorf II Fortuna Cologne really wanted to win again against Bonner SC in order to put more pressure on leaders Rot-Weiss Essen. Fortuna also played offensively from the start.
Dominik Lanius (12th) and Sascha Marquet (29th) still had the best shot opportunities for the home side. But despite Cologne’s good early phase, the BSC kept the zero – and became dangerous themselves. Semih Güler (38th) prevailed against central defender Lanius and goalkeeper Weis and – unbelievable but true – the Bonner shot past the empty goal. An incredible scene!
But just four minutes later Güler made up for his missed shot. He crossed right to Albert Bunjaku and the 38-year-old headed in – 1-0 for Bonn (42nd).
Fortuna’s coach Alexander Ende made two changes at half-time. Maik Kegel and Leon Demaj out, Kai Försterling and Dmitry Imbongo in. But there was no improvement in sight. Fortuna found it very difficult against defensively strong Bonners, who kept clean sheets in three of four games before the game.
It happened as it had to: Fortuna found no means against Bonn’s bulwark and they clinched victory with a dangerous counterattack. Albin Thaqi, winter signing from Borussia Dortmund II, got the poisonous Güler off his feet and there were penalties. Güler converted safely – 2:0 (72nd)!
Marquet’s goal (77th) is no longer enough for Fortuna. In front of around 1700 spectators, the embarrassing 1:2 for Cologne and after the 1:2 at Rot-Weiss Essen, the second defeat of the season. The RWE fans will be happy…
