INFO THE DEPECHE. Toulouse: a young man drugged and robbed his gay victims
A 25-year-old man has been in custody since Monday. He is suspected of having baited and drugged at least eight people to rob them.
He acted as a predator and attacked many victims for several months, in the gay community in Toulouse. A 25-year-old man was arrested on Monday morning following an investigation by the National Police Property Skills Unit.
He is currently being heard in police custody. At least eight people are said to have been victims of his actions.
The modus operandi was as simple as it was perverse. Through social networks, and in particular the Grindr application, he got dates with men for a naughty moment. This application consists of geolocating free people nearby in order to allow quick meetings.
Several preys accepted an appointment and fell into a real trap as described by Julien, just in his forties, in our edition of December 8 (read box).
The man acted in the heart of Toulouse, in the Jean-Jaurès sector and Place Dupuy. He provided a first address where his victim joined him then explained that it would be easier to go to another apartment, nearby, “to a friend’s house”. He inspired confidence and his victim followed him. There, the man offered a drink to his future victim. Then the black hole.
The one-night meetings woke up several hours later completely stripped of their personal belongings and in particular of their bank cards. They didn’t remember anything. Purchases were made on their accounts. Over the weeks, complaints have been made against the office of the investigators who have sought to find out who was hiding behind these ambushes against a background of drugs and proposed sex.
Are these homophobic or villainous attacks?
They used all the means at their disposal to identify him but also to understand who his alleged accomplices might be. Placed on Monday in police custody, the 25-year-old boy had to be hospitalized because of his fragile state of health. He was nevertheless heard.
Did he act out of simple greed? Are these homophobic attacks? Were the victims abused while unconscious? The hearing of the suspect and the investigations which continued should make it possible to know more about his motivations.
To date, eight victims have been named, but are there more? Did some not dare to cross the door of a police station?
Contacted on Tuesday, the Toulouse prosecutor’s office reserved all possibilities as to the form of the prosecution to be carried out in this case of theft with aggravated violence.
“What he served me was sweet and bitter”
At the beginning of December, Julien * was the victim of the scheme of the 25-year-old man placed in police custody on Monday. At the time, it had been demonstrated in our columns to prevent such an attack from happening again. He described: “I received an invite on Grindr. He gave me an appointment at his place in the Jean-Jaurès sector. When I got to the bottom of the building, he came down the street. He explained to me that we couldn’t go up to his house but that we could go to a friend of his. He offered me a drink, I accepted. I had not drunk alcohol before. What he served me was something sweet and bitter at the same time. Two minutes later, it’s a black hole. Julien wakes up the next day. “I was lying in the back of my car. They had stolen my shirt, my jacket, my credit card, cash but also my phone. »
