UPDATE 4:50 p.m. Traffic is no longer totally cut off
The Metropolis of Toulouse indicates at 4:45 p.m. that traffic is no longer completely cut off on Avenue de Lyon, but it remains disrupted at the end of the afternoon near the building in question.
“The fire has weakened the structure, the building must be demolished urgently”. Because of a “risk of collapse”, according to a police source, the building located on avenue de Lyon, in Toulouseplagued by fire Tuesday 1uh March 2022 at the end of the morning, must be shaved faster than expected.
A mechanical shovel was dispatched on the spot, this Tuesday afternoon, to finish demolishing the building, before it collapses completely. This dilapidated building, which was to be demolished soon as part of the Grand Matabiau Quais d’Oc project, will be fully shaved at the end of the day, specifies the Metropolis to Toulouse news.
Avenue de Lyon closed
Because of this hasty construction site, and the risk of collapse on the public highway, the perimeter has been cordoned off around the building. Avenue de Lyon will remain closed to traffic until the end of the construction site, as will the adjacent rue du Maroc. “Avenue de Lyon will reopen at the end of the day “, announces the Metropolis. In this busy sector, the circulation around Matabiau risks being severely disrupted at the end of the afternoon.
Diverted bus lines
On his side, Tisseo announcesbecause of this action, “the temporary deviation” of lines L9 and 39 between Pont Matabiau and Hauts de Bonnefoy” along the banks of the Canal – Marengo SNCF – Jolimont – Roseraie – avenue de Lavaur. The stops not served are: Matabiau – Raynal, Arago, Eglise Bonnefoy and Hauts de Bonnefoy.
Occupied by squatters
Around 11 a.m. on Monday, a fire broke out in the building located at 17 avenue de Lyon. The fire took in this building which adjoins the buildings being demolished, as part of the Grand Matabiau project. Twenty firefighters were hired to fight the flames, according to the SDIS of Haute-Garonne. But if the fire itself is under control, the building in danger could collapse at any time.
This dilapidated building, due to be demolished soon, was occupied by squattersmanaged to get out before help arrived. Firefighters scoured the rubble to make sure no one was there. Fortunately, the fire did not cause any casualties or injuries. From a source close to the investigation, the origin of the accident has not yet been established.
