US deputies want to sanction Dimitri Rybolovlev, the boss of AS Monaco
Forty-three American deputies tabled a joint motion on February 19 before the House of Representatives. These elected officials from South Carolina, Texas, Nebraska, Illinois, South Dakota and Utah are calling for the expansion of sanctions against Russian nationals. On this blacklist is notably Dmitri Rybolovlev, the boss of AS Monaco.
Simple proposal without force of law
The writers of this post, dubbed the “Putin Accountability Act”, recommend that the Treasury Department and the President of the United States freeze the assets and properties of the Russian personalities targeted by this “Act”. . The signatory deputies also ask the administration to suspend the visas which these relatives of the Kremlin could benefit from.
Does Rybolovlev risk serious trouble in the United States? In reality, as it is a so-called “simple” resolution, the bill tabled before the House of Representatives does not have the force of law. It is in fact a very official message that these deputies are thus conveying to the government of their country. Nothing indicates that this group of deputies will be followed by the federal administration. For the time being Joe Biden has been careful not to give them satisfaction.
Abramovich also targeted
It must be said that at the top of this blacklist appears the name of a regular at the White House: Roman Abramovich, himself boss of the Chelsea club in England and owner of the Château de la Croé at Cap d’Antibes. The private Boeing of this billionaire had also left the tarmac at Nice airport last Thursday, when the first Russian missiles fell on Ukraine, to reach Moscow.
