THE BALL – Paulo Fonseca returns to Portugal: «It is difficult to feel great happiness at this moment» (Football)
It was at the end of the night that Paulo Fonseca landed in Portugal, after the journey to leave Ukraine in the midst of the Russian Invasion. After 30 hours of travel and passages through Moldova and Romania, the Portuguese coach did not hide Delgado’s destination, arriving at Humberto airport.
« Mixed emotions, on the one hand I managed to bring on the other hand It’s my family on the other hand, but. It is difficult to feel great happiness at this moment. I have a great connection to Ukraine, I was living there. “It was a journey, not so much for what we were selling, the military columns, the sis, the planes passing by. The trip was very long, without stopping, but always with that feeling of danger, that I think was the worst. The traffic was huge. We stopped at service stations, there was no more gas or food. It was difficult because of that, but above all because of that constant feeling of danger».
With a strong connection to Ukraine, Paulo Fonseca, who wanted to thank the owner of Shakhtar Donetsk, the Portuguese embassy and the president of the Portuguese Football Federation, also left a word for the Ukrainian people.
“I have no words to describe what is happening in Ukraine, that people who are suffering so much, but who are fighting so hard to defend their homeland. The president is the first, and even today [segunda-feira] I saw a huge list of people who were planned to help people. We see numerous public figures who have enlisted. What is happening is unique. It’s going to be difficult, but I think they’ve already won the war.”
Finally, Paulo Fonseca left an outburst about his career. It is recalled that the Portuguese coach has been out of work since he left Roma in the summer.
“I even forgot about football now. I will want to go back, I don’t think so this season, but I won’t start next time. But honestly, if there’s one thing I haven’t thought about, it’s football,” she concluded.
