On 6 March at 3.00 pm in the hall of the Castello di Faetano, in the presence of the Secretary
of State for Education and Culture Andrea Belluzzi, the delivery of the certificates for the former
step of the Research Course Human Remains and Blood Traces.
This is the first of a series of steps that will lead dogs and their handlers to be
operational for the search of people no longer alive. The Rescue Dog Unit of the Republic of San MarinoVolunteer Association, which are formed to form and train the Rescue Dog Units on the surface and under rubble.
Tutor of the course the teachers of Detection Dogs Ticino. Dog Units from all parts of Italy attended the coursedue to the particularity of the materials used during the training days, in fact, synthetic materials will not be used.
Surface and rubble search dogs are trained to search for a person’s odor
alive, or recently deceased. In front of deceased people, the rescue dog is unable to locate the body as its formation is based on the search for the “live” human odor while the decomposition of the body totally modifies the odor.
Statistics show that missing persons are often not found immediately
but after years and years in a lucky way.
The use of dogs can be effective even temporally very distant from the events that
led to the disappearance of the subjectand they will be able to find human remains buried as a result of a crime, human remains buried as a result of natural disasters, human remains hidden on the surface, corpses submerged in inland waters (rivers, lakes).
Also at the forensic level they are specially trained to locate blood and can
help other more recognized techniques in finding biological evidence at a crime scene.
