Koronovirus: What do the sewage for the viral load in Athens and Thessaloniki show?
An increase of up to 63% was observed in the internal load coronavirus in urban areas effluent four regions of the country, in the week of February 21-27, while on the contrary reduction up to 56% was observed in six areas.
Specifically, according to the analyzes carried out by the National Network of Sewage Epidemiology (EDEL) of EODY, declining trends at its average weekly viral load pandemic in urban wastewater in six of the thirteen areas inspected in the week of February 21-27 in relation to the week of February 14-20.
Growth trends observed in four from the thirteen regions and stabilizing trends in three regions controlled by EDEL.
Net declining trends observed in Chania (-56%), Heraklion (-53%), Patras (-52%) and Ioannina (-36%), while the decline was marginal in Thessaloniki (-22%) and Attica (- 16%).
Net upward trends were observed in Corfu (+ 36%), Volos (+ 40%), Rethymno (+ 43%) and Agios Nikolaos (+ 63%). The viral load of urban wastewater remained virtually stable in Larissa (-8%), Xanthi (-7%) and Alexandroupolis (+ 7%).
The epidemiological picture in the EODY data
Today, Tuesday, March 1, EODY patients 17,176 new cases, 52 deaths and 291 intubated patients with covid.
The announcement of EODY for the cases that were identified in the territory is as follows:
“The new laboratory-confirmed cases of the disease recorded in the last 24 hours are 17,176, of which 45 were identified after checks at the country’s gates. The total number of cases is 2,438,872 (daily change + 0.7%), of which 49.5% are men.
Based on the confirmed cases of the last 7 days,
285 are considered to be related to travel from abroad and 2,007 are related to an already known case.
The new deaths of patients with COVID-19 are 52, while since the beginning of the epidemic a total of 25,914 deaths have been recorded. 95.1% had underlying meaning and / or age 70 years and older.
The number of patients treated intubated is 408 (64.2% men). Their median age is 67 years. 89.7% have an underlying disease and / or age 70 years and older. Among intubated patients, 291 (71.32%) are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated and 117 (28.68%) are fully vaccinated. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 4,274 patients have been discharged from the ICU.
The admission of new Covid-19 patients to the hospitals of the territory is 299 (daily change + 7.17%). The average seven-day admission is 303 patients. The median age of cases is 35 years (range 0.2 to 106 years), while the median age of death is 79 years (range 0.2 to 106 years).
