Toulouse. A cycle path is appearing on boulevard Monplaisir
A new cycle path is being developed on Boulevard Monplaisir and part of Allée des Soupirs in Toulouse. The reason: to relieve the greenway of the Canal du Midi.
Cyclists prefer to take a new path along the Canal du Midi. The Toulouse City Hall is in the process of creating a new cycle path on Boulevard Monplaisir and part of the Allée des Soupirs. To do so, some disturbances are to be expected.
Work to develop the cycle path
The new cycle path will be bi-directional. To be able to develop it throughout the works, Boulevard Monplaisir is a one-way street. Motorists will take the boulevard in the Grand Rond direction towards rue du Japon. A change is also to be expected in the rue du Japon, which sees its direction of traffic reversed.
In a press release, the town hall of Toulouse specifies: “This new track constitutes a first phase of development of REV 2 and 13 (express bike network) along the Canal du Midi, before a more structuring intervention within the framework of the Grand Park-Canal”.
A new track to relieve congestion on the Canal du Midi greenway
This new installation of a cycle path is aimed at relieving congestion on the greenway of the Canal du Midi. The latter is a popular place for pedestrians and cyclists. “To make everyone’s movements safe and easy, a two-way cycle path is being developed on Boulevard Monplaisir and part of the Allée des Soupirs (portion between Port Saint-Sauveur and Boulevard Monplaisir)”, justify the town hall of Toulouse.
The banks of the Canal du Midi will thus be “relieved of the flow of bicycles”. “Pedestrians will have more space to move around safely,” explains the municipality. An extension of the cycle path on Boulevard de la Marne is currently under study. It will also be subject to consultation.
