the survival of a subcontractor of the Orange operator threatened
Specialized in network installation, Scopelec is an Orange subcontractor. His services have also been requested in the Fiber optic deployer. Today, nearly 500 employees based in Occitania see their jobs threatened. In question: the loss of two big contracts with the telephone operator. The site, located in Saint Orens near Toulouse, could be affected.
A third call for tenders and a meeting with the Minister of the Economy expected
A massive blow for Scopelec, Orange subcontractor for 50 years. However, the result of the telephone company’s third tender should soon be revealed, according to France Blue. In the meantime, the unions still hope to be able to save a few jobs.
An appointment with Bruno the Mayor, Minister of the Economy, is also scheduled for March 2. The objective of the employees: to obtain work with Orange for at least a year and a half, the time to turn around.
Times are tough for contractors
At the moment, the situation of several subcontractors in the region is becoming more complicated. The SAM foundry (Aveyron), subcontractor of Renault, was notably forced to put the key under the door. The automotive group had refused its takeover offer in November 2021, wiping the foundry and the jobs of its employees off the map.
The materials supplier Aubert & Duval, provided a site in Pamiers, is an exception. At a time Airbus subcontractor, Safran, Tikehau Ace Capital and the Eramet group, he saw these companies sign a memorandum of understanding as part of a joint acquisition to break the deadlock. But “happy endings” are rare.
