The bomb defused, traffic resumed
While work to extend Luxembourg station is in full swing, a bomb from the Second World War was discovered on Monday morning near the Büchler bridge, the CFL announced.
The station was evacuated at the end of the morning and a security perimeter was established throughout the afternoon. Demining operations continued until around 5 p.m. and traffic was restored.
The circulation of trains at Luxembourg station was interrupted throughout the network until 6 p.m., the time at which a gradual resumption could take place, according to the rail operator.
The streets providing access to the area around the station, closed for much of the afternoon, were reopened around 5 p.m., according to the police. The occupants of the administrative buildings and nearby homes, evacuated since midday, were also able to return to the scene.
