ICE Young Stars League: The quarter-final pairings are set

The regular season of the ICE Young Stars League concluded on Sunday February 27th. Immediately after the last round were allowed the top 3 teams select their quarter-final opponents for the “best-of-5” series, which is played according to the H/H/A/A/H scheme.
EC Grand Immo VSV (1) – Icehawks Hockey Club (8)
The EC Grand Immo VSV won the regular round of the ICE Young Stars League and thus also gained the first pick right for the quarter-finals. The Young Eagles, who won 23 of their 30 regular-season games, chose the Icehawks Hockey Club, which captures a regular-season point. The previous four season duels have all clearly gone to Villach.

HTC Nordic Hockey Academy (2) – HC TIWAG Innsbruck – The Sharks (7)
With the second right to pick, the HTC Nordic Academy chose HC TIWAG Innsbruck, which ended the regular season in seventh place in the table. In the four previous duels, the NHA prevailed confidently. The goal difference from the previous four duels is 30:7.

EC Red Bull Salzburg (3) – Okanagan Hockey Club Europe (5)
As the third and last team, EC Red Bull Salzburg, who only narrowly missed out on second place in the regular season, had to choose their opponent from the two invisible teams. The Bulls’ choice falls on the Okanagan Hockey Club Europe, who finished fifth in the regular season. The St. Pöltner were able to win at least one point against Salzburg in one of the four duels against Salzburg.

Ice Hockey Academy Styria (4) – Ice Hockey Academy Upper Austria (6)
For the Ice Hockey Academy of Styria, which finished fourth in the regular season, the sixth-placed Ice Hockey Academy of Upper Austria was left. The first of the three matches played in the regular season was still a clear affair for the Styrians. In the other two encounters, the two teams fought duels at eye level, in which the Upper Austrians were able to prevail in extra time and once won the EAS with a one-goal difference.
