Afterschool in Pisa: today openday at Lorenzini, next Monday at Oberdan
The Municipality of Pisa and the Cassiopea cooperative today meet the parents of the children who attend the Lorenzini primary school in San Giusto to introduce the new experimental after-school service departing from two elementary schools in Pisa. The next meeting, Monday 7 March at 3.30 pm, will in fact be at the other school involved in the project, the Oberdan in via San Michele degli Scalzi.
“Finally – explains the councilor for educational and school policies Sandra Munno – in these days when we are about to overcome the state of emergency caused by the pandemic, we can reschedule the activation of the after-school program which will start on an experimental basis at two schools of the city school, the Oberdan and the Lorenzini. Today the first face-to-face meeting is held with parents and children interested in after-school activities in which I will provide, together with the cooperative that was awarded the service, specific information on the organization and on the didactic-educational methods that will be developed in the afternoon activities. The service can be activated as early as this year, if parents request it immediately, or from the beginning of the next school year.
“With the after-school service – continues the commissioner – the Administration has aimed at providing families with a structured, continuous and quality service. The activation of the canteen is foreseen, creative play activities and the carrying out of tasks with the help of educational staff for preparatory children, also offering an extension of time from late until the afternoon. The final goal, once the compliance of the service with the needs of children and families has been verified, is to extend it to other schools in the city. The after-school service, together with the extension of hours in two nurseries, makes of that larger project that the municipal administration is committed to carrying out, with parents who support parents in the growth phase of their children, providing services for families in the process of reconciling work commitments and family life times.
The service, entrusted following the outcome of the tender to the Cassiopea Cooperative which deals with educational services, provides for the activation of the canteen and to follow, after the recreational break, the possibility for children to carry out their homework with the aid of educational staff, creative workshops and other recreational activities, offering families an extension of time from the end of school until 5 pm.
