250 positions to be filled as soon as possible at SBM, recruitment continues in Monaco
The Société des Bains de Mer had organized two recruitment days in December; she reiterated on Saturday in view of the upcoming season.
The objective was, on Saturday, to offer between 200 and 250 positions. “In December, there were a lot of uncertainties, with real health tensions, emphasizes Sophie Vincent, Director of Human Resources for the SBM Group since November 15th. Today, the climate is a little more serene. For the first time, we have chosen Saturday to possibly capture students who have worked during working days.”
And if there were no crowds at Monte-Carlo One for this new wave of recruitment, it was the opportunity for the candidates to introduce themselves. “We have welcomed some 150 people since this morning”, noted Sophie Vincent at the start of the afternoon. Those who would like to apply can still send spontaneous applications.
“Recruitment for the season will continue, especially as we are looking for extras during the year”, says Sophie Vincent. Candidates can therefore still apply and send an email to [email protected].
The Société des Bains de Mer is looking for many profiles: all trades in the hotel and catering industry, well-being for spas, leisure activities with lifeguards and animators holding the BAFA, but also valets, staff for room services, housekeeping, etc.
Rebuilding a pool after the health crisis
Covid has changed the social context: many employees are turning to jobs other than those in the hotel and catering industry, which are considered difficult and restrictive. In total, seven hundred seasonal workers are recruited between April and October. “We must reconstitute a more solid breeding ground”, explains Sophie Vincent.
The professions are very diverse and can offer career opportunities. “It’s a very nice house in terms of training, would like to clarify Sophie Vincent. These professions can be social elevators. We are going to look for a know-how, a motivation, a desire to learn beyond the diploma.” The HRD also points out that “the salaries are advantageous and the opportunities for advancement are significant.”
With its 3,600 employees in four hotels, thirty restaurants, casinos and spas, the profiles can possibly meet the expectations of the company. “We met some very interesting candidates. The lack of staff is especially felt in the kitchen. Young people are turning away a lot from this sector because catering is indeed very demanding. We remain worried because the candidates are lacking. The hotel school also makes the same observation.
We work a lot with the chefs to be more attractive. This generation of chefs knows that you have to manage differently.”
Now it’s time to convince potential candidates…
The SBM being on a good trend of reservations for the summer, it seeks to recruit especially in the most tense area: the kitchen. A sector known to be difficult at a time when employees want quality of life.
How do you explain young people’s lack of love for cooking jobs?
Paradoxically, the candidates are few while there have never been so many programs on the kitchen. Of course, in our profession, you have to be hardworking, courageous and honest. And have a love of the job. I always got up in the morning with the same passion.
It is also a restrictive job, which leaves little freedom…
It takes iron discipline and eating every day, noon and night. I worked a lot but I had a lot of freedom. When I don’t like a recipe, I change it. In large hotels and gourmet restaurants, working conditions are better. It is also a job that can be a real social lift.
How many candidates did you meet at midday on this recruitment Saturday?
Ten people including three who could be retained, including a clerk for the very next opening of Em Sherif. In total, we will need about fifty people between the kitchen and the dining room just for this new Lebanese restaurant.
