Toulouse: residents overwhelmed by the nuisance of the Aldi store, avenue Jean Chaubet
Nuisance from heat pumps, deliveries outside regulatory hours, rubbish… The Aldi store has a lot of problems. Residents are in excess and launch a petition.
“Before July 2021 and the closure of Leader Price, acquired by the Aldi brand, everything was going well for the residents of 151, avenue Jean Chaubet. After that, everything went downhill.”
Sarah, a local resident tries to weigh her words while describing the situation experienced since November 2021: “After work undertaken by Aldi, several local residents living behind the supermarket began to experience noise pollution linked to the start-up of heat pumps which supply heat and cold to the building. An infernal and constant noise where the double glazing has no effect”.
In December 2021, faced with this degradation of daily life, local residents wrote a letter to the Aldi regional company to ask for the noise to stop. “We haven’t received any response, I estimate Sarah. In January, we decided to contact the City’s Hygiene and Health service to ask for a sound level measurement. The result was of course well beyond regulatory standards.”
“We can’t take it anymore. It is the Aldi plant that decides. The manager does his best but he has no power. We want soothing deeds not just words.”
Without reaction from the sign, the residents therefore launched a request at the end of January to demand that the pumps be completely stopped. “In this petition, other problems have been raised: deliveries made after 10 p.m., assures another resident. With unloading of goods from 10 p.m. to midnight by large semi-trailers passing under the windows.
This other resident said: “We can’t take it anymore. It is the Aldi plant that decides. The manager does his best but he has no power. We want soothing deeds not just words.”
The store does its best
If for now, the petition seems to have solved the problem of deliveries, this is not the case for the heat pumps.
Arrested, the technical department of Aldi, responded to our request in a sibylline way “we are aware of the problem, he explains. We cut the pumps at night and the equipment has to be changed”.
This petition also raises the issue of rubbish (packaging, cans, plastic, etc.) found in the gardens, causing, once again, inconvenience to local residents.
An additional point listed in the request sent in recommendation by the collective which also called on a lawyer.
