Basketball: Austria clearly loses against Switzerland
Vienna – Sunday, February 27th, 2022, 6:18 p.m
Austria’s basketball men lost for the first time on Sunday in the fourth game of the first round of the preliminary qualification for the 2025 European Championship.
The defeat in Switzerland is clear at 61:80 (36:40), which puts the ÖBV selection at a disadvantage after the 80:64 in the home game in November, even in a direct comparison. With Enis Murati (14 points), Thomas Klepeisz (13) and Bogic Vujosevic (10), three veterans were the most successful throwers of the ÖBV selection.
Austria were behind from the start in Freiburg, but had fought their way up to four points by half-time. The preliminary decision falls in the third section, which was lost at 7:26 from a red-white-red point of view. In the final quarter, Raoul Korner’s team failed to reduce the deficit to 16 points or less.
The first phase of the pre-qualification ends at the beginning of summer. Austria will play Ireland and Cyprus in front of their home crowds on June 30th and July 3rd respectively.
The three group winners and the best runner-up advance to the second round. There are two more qualification phases on the schedule before the 2025 finals.
