Young people and families from Poggio Torriana, together for Ukraine
Moved by the feeling of peace and justice, a small group of young people from Poggio Torriana cannot sit idle. In the last few hours, in the light of the bombings on Kiev and the Ukrainian crisis, he has decided to form a peaceful garrison in front of the Poggio Torriana Social Center. “Whether there are 30,000 of us, 30,000 or 3, it doesn’t matter: now more than ever, in the face of the absurdity of this war, we need to do something, react. We cannot remain helpless, that’s what the violent want, those who use power for their own purposes at the expense of others. And we are all “the others”: the war proclaimed by Putin against his daughter Ukraine affects us all; democracy and freedom, so sweaty and trampled on today, it is we who have been able to choose it and which we must defend more than ever. “There are young students who return from universities, such as Milan and Bologna, for the weekend, but I don’t think about resting, so much is the urgency; there are young workers, who do extra work on the evening of the weekend, but decide to act, driven by a feeling of solidarity and awareness that goes beyond personal fatigue; there are friends and young people from neighboring municipalities, such as Santarcangelo and Verucchio, who come together in unison, because when the value of the ideas to be defended is high, it does not matter where they come from. There are adults, parents, educators, who support and assist them. There are the stories of Ukrainian residents who, perhaps, will feel less alone and helpless; and those of young people from our area, (and their girlfriends) who enrolled in the armed forces, have their suitcase ready, waiting for a call that hopefully will never arrive. There are families and their children, worried about the future of the new generations, already so affected by the pandemic, who are unable to ignore it. The municipal administration invites families, the elderly, young people and anyone who wants to share a message of rhythm to participate in this dramatic moment in the history of our humanity. The appointment is Sunday 27 February at 10.30 am at the parking lot of the Social Center of Poggio Torriana. After the greetings, a walk to the rhythm of Ukrainian music will take place towards the Sapignoli Mill Park, for a moment of reflection. Anyone who wants can wear yellow and blue clothing, or carry banners or placards in the colors of the Ukrainian flag.
