UMU, OST of Switzerland sign Memorandum of Understanding – FrontPageAfrica
MONROVIA – The United Methodist University of Liberia (UMU) and OST – Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences begin signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on February 15, 2022, committing the two institutions to work together in providing educational services to the will benefit their people. dr Yar Donlah Gonway-Gono, signing on behalf of UMU, said she was thrilled that the two institutions would work together for the common good of humanity, particularly the academic community of their respective countries. “I can’t wait to see the academic collaboration between students and faculty from the two universities,” she said. dr Gonway-Gono indicated that her dream of connecting the United Methodist University of Liberia with prestigious international universities is now gaining momentum.
“Through this partnership, we will ensure that the sciences are not only studied in Liberia, but that they are applied to the daily life of our population, as in Switzerland,” she emphasized. The UMU president said she will use the services of the two Liberian students who have benefited from the OST – Ostschweizer Fachhochschule to attract other young people to the applied sciences. This partnership will bring hope to Liberian students, particularly those at the United Methodist University of Liberia,” concluded Dr. Gonway-Gono.
For his part, Felix F. Walz, the liaison officer for the OST – Ostschweizer Fachhochschule, said that the partnership with the United Methodist University of Liberia is a great way that Switzerland will help Liberia. “If these two institutions function positively, the benefit will be greater cooperation for both countries and their people,” Walz added. He pointed out that the United Methodist University of Liberia, in its search for collaborating partner institutions, presented a perfect opportunity for the University of Eastern Switzerland to launch its Applied Sciences Platform. “I’m glad I met the administration of the UMU, who accepted this partnership,” he said.
According to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the two universities agree to promote the development of the teaching staff and the support of the academic capacity of the UMU through information exchange. “International, transnational student projects such as support for theses or training programs for students will be our focus,” says the declaration of intent. The universities indicated through the MoU that joint research projects on applied sciences will be organized, which will also focus on fundamentally improving human conditions in the two countries.
