A new bike path in both directions is emerging along the Canal du Midi in Toulouse.
About a kilometer long, it runs along the Canal du Midi between the Pont des Demoiselles and the Port Saint-Sauveur.
It was drawn on part of the rue du Japon, the boulevard Montplaisir and part of the allée des Soupirs.
A one-way street
To develop the new track, Toulouse Métropole has makes Boulevard Monplaisir one-way. Motorists will now only use it in the direction of the Grand Rond towards rue du Japon. The direction of traffic in the rue du Japon has been reversed.
Flow limiter on the banks of the Canal du Midi
This new track is located a few meters from the track located on the banks of the Canal du Midi, only a row of trees separating them.
“The Canal du Midi greenway is a place that is very much avoided by pedestrians and cyclists.
It is to secure and ease everyone’s movements that the new two-way cycle path has been developed. Thus on the part of the banks of the Canal, the greenway will be relieved of the flow of bicycles. Pedestrians will have more space to move around safely,” explains Toulouse Métropole.
Part of the future express bike network (REV)
This new track constitutes a first phase of development of REV 2 and 13 (express bike network) along the Canal du Midi, before a more structuring intervention within the framework of the Grand Parc Canal, indicates Toulouse Métropole.
“Its extension on the boulevard de la Marne is under study and will also be subject to consultation”, announces the community.
