Genoa, the Municipality: “A recycling center in the Lagaccio area”. The Democratic Party: “Disregarded environmental education project”

It will be built by Amiu with funds from the PNRR in the area where the Tdn center was, recently evacuated. In addition to the Democratic Party, some perplexities were expressed on the project by some committees of the neighborhood, worried by the hypothesis of the delivery of waste with bins and containers and asphalted areas for the arrival of vehicles

Genoa – A pole of the circular economy between the districts of San Teodoro and Lagaccio. After the reuse center in the former market in via Bologna and in the former Gavoglio barracks, the Municipality of Genoa is inserting another, important piece, in this design with the project for the area of via Bianco, in Lagaccio, once occupied by the social center Tdn.

The “integrated hub for the circular economy” will be created by Amiu on behalf of the Municipality of Genoa at the presentation of the funding from the Pnrr. At the presentation this morning the councilor for the waste cycle Matteo Camporathe president of the Central East municipality Andrea Carratù and Tiziana Merlinoresponsible for Amiu Genova Pnrr projects and some citizens.

Concerns have been expressed on the project by some committees in the neighborhood, concerned by the hypothesis of the delivery of waste with bins and containers and asphalted areas for the arrival of vehicles. “The choice of a future integrated Pole for the Circular Economy is a clear message – continues Campora – We want to make people understand how a space that is objectively degraded and bordering on illegality can be transformed into an innovative Reuse Center“.

The project foresees two nuclei: to the south, a building – which will house Amiu personnel – with the function of “portal” to the area of the Collection Center behind the transfer of recyclable material. To the north, another two-storey building used as a Centro del Riuso, facing the large green area dominated by an elm. Access to the Collection Center, with a driveway gate, will take place from via Bianco, through a wide road network dedicated to Amiu cars and vehicles.

Tiziana Merlino, head of Pnrr Amiu adds: “In the world of the circular economy the landfill does not exist, because waste does not exist. It is the citizen who becomes the first link in a virtuous chain“.

The outdoor area will be suitable for carrying out outdoor educational activities. The Elm Garden will protect and enhance the presence of the large tree by enriching the space with a flowerbed of lantana and lavender. In support of this space, a public green area with a playful-recreational character has also been designed that will host sports functions such as a skate rink or other.

The note from the Democratic Party: “They said it would be an education center, today we discover that it will be a waste collection center”

“We are aware that the promises made in recent years by the Municipality, the Central East Municipality and AMIU to the citizens of Lagaccio will not be kept – reads a statement released by the Dems – In various meetings and public assemblies the representatives of the Municipality and Municipality L ” announcement of the construction of an Environmental Education Center, a space where schools and citizens will be able to understand how to increase the separate collection and recycling of materials. In October last year, the President of the Municipality of Carratù himself had ruled out the construction of an ecological island, promising a different operation that would be fully included in the sport valley project. And instead, from our resulting papers that AMIU has designed a waste collection center in asphalt and nine bins covered by a canopy for the collection of different materials and other containers for the storage of hazardous waste. After years of promises, today the truth comes out ”.

The Democratic Party asks for a verification in the City Council: “We asked that the Councilor for the Environment report immediately to the Council Commission on the Lagaccio project with the hearing of the associations of the and of the City Hall”.
