Emil Skartveit will lead the Methodist Church in Norway – Our Country
Skartveit takes over from Johanna Lundereng, who last summer transferred to another position at the Methodist Church’s head office in St. Olavs gate in Oslo.
It reports the Methodist Church on its website.
– Solid background
– Emil comes with a solid and varied background that piqued our interest already when the application came in, says main board chairman Audun Westad on metodistkirken.no.
Skartveit is from Stavanger, but lives in Halden. He has complex church experiences and, among other things, officer training from the Salvation Army, but also time of service from the Church of Norway.
He comes from the position as general manager of Domkirken parish and Rolvsøy parish in Fredrikstad. Skartveit is also known as a journalist, author and hymn writer, as a festival leader and an avid football fan.
Central in planning work towards 2030
– We quickly noticed that this was a type we wanted to get to know better and learn more about. Emil is an engaging type. It is easy to get involved with him, and we think he will be a good match for the employees at the head office and for the Methodist Church in general. I feel confident that we have gained a creativity and a work capacity that we will enjoy in many different processes, says chairman of the board Westad.
He refers to the work on the plan The Methodist Church towards 2030 as something Skartveit will deal with and be able to have a positive effect on.
Although Skartveit has a different church background, he is not completely unknown to Norwegian Methodists. He has in fact contributed to the supervising priest Knut Refsdal’s podcast. It happened in connection with Skartveit being one of the authors behind a post in Vårt land where it was pointed out that Free Church environments can sometimes be too cramped.
