The winter season is going much better than expected
economy
Winter tourism in Salzburg is likely to recover from the lockdowns much faster and better than expected. This is shown by figures from the Salzburger Land Tourismus Gesellschaft. The semester break has not yet been settled, but the payment figures up to January in the winter sports regions are very satisfactory.
According to experts, the further openings should give the industry a boost. How well the semester break was actually booked will not be settled until the end of February.
85 percent of the record year 2019 possible
Despite the consequences of the lockdown, a first look back gives reason to be happy, Leo Bauernberger from the Salzburger Land Tourismus Gesellschaft: “The interim balance from November to January is very positive. Compared to the five-year average, we are down 20 percent. That’s very good. Excluding congress and business tourism, this is a remarkable result. February itself is going very, very well. We estimate that we will reach 80 to 85 percent of the record year 2019, when there was no CoV crisis.”
More openings, more bookings
The political announcement of further openings from March 5 also has a turbo-charged effect on the booking situation. The perfect snow conditions in the mountains, the expected carnival, the semester breaks in Upper Austria, Styria, Bavaria, Hamburg and the Netherlands would further fuel the optimism of the hotel and catering industry, adds Bauernberger.
