Glenn Martens, the Belgian who will ignite the Milan catwalk
Milan revisited
What if we acted “as if nothing had happened?” Between February 23 and 28, no less than sixty shows will be held in the Italian fashion capital. At a time when all brands are switching to digital, the good old fashion show is celebrating its great post-pandemic comeback. While the National Chamber of Italian Fashion announces rising sales figures for 2021, the sector is therefore rather celebrating.

And, this season, in Milan as everywhere in the world, this celebration will also be enjoyed with Belgian sauce. The Diesel label – whose reputation goes well beyond the register of denim – has in fact recently offered the services of Belgian designer Glenn Martens, founder of Y/Project, whose show (the first since the designer took office ) is scheduled for February 23.

Three things to know about Glenn Martens
1- If the Belgian’s first collection for Diesel (summer 2022) is already present in some luxury boutiques, it is the first time that the Belgian who graduated from the Royal Academy of Antwerp will take place in Milan since his appointment as as Artistic Director of the brand. According to many observers, it is even one of the most anticipated shows of this Fashion Week.
2- The small world of luxury, however, did not wait for Milan to applaud the collections of the 28-year-old designer. Last month, he indeed tried his hand at couture by signing the Couture collection of the Maison Jean-Paul Gaultier. Since his retirement, the star designer in the striped sweater has had fun inviting other designers to design a collection. Cocorico: the Belgian’s silhouettes were the most applauded this week of couture.
3- Like all Belgians, Glenn Martens is obsessed with creating innovative and avant-garde concepts. His approach to fashion has also earned him the ANDAM prize in 2020. In the process, he joined the list of the 500 most influential personalities in the sector, according to The Business of Fashion. Enough to make Belgium shine even more on the international scene.
