Ukraine must demand a tough response from the West and sanctions against Russia
Ukraine needs to strengthen its Western allies to respond more harshly to Russia’s actions and impose tough sanctions against the aggressor country.
This opinion was expressed by the political analyst of the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation Maria Zolkina during a round table in Ukrinformdevoted to the discussion of the recognition of the Russian Federation of puppet formations “L / DNR”.
“Ukraine should not be afraid to put our allies in an uncomfortable position now, pointing them to a tougher reaction. I am afraid that any escalation in Donbass will not be seen by most of our allies as the aggression that everyone was so afraid of and warned about. Thus, for them it is an escalation in the Donbass, but not yet a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, “said Zolkina.
According to her, Ukraine will never allow such an interpretation in the international arena of actions of the aggressor country and demand it for tougher sanctions.
“Our task now is to demand hotly on all international platforms that there is no such interpretation. Because Russia has now created the conditions for the open operation of regular military and subsequent operations in the new territory of Donbass. And if there are no tough sanctions now, the probability of invasion of another part of Donbass is only old, “the expert said.
She criticized the first package of sanctions against Russia and the United States, saying they did not justify their opposition to the aggressor country.
The first sanctions imposed by the US administration are completely inconsistent with Russia’s package and have nothing to do with the deadly package of sanctions, such as the closure of the world (international payment system – ed.), Nord Stream 2, economic, financial flows or personal sanctions against all members of the Security Council who have openly and on record their support for Russia’s external aggression, “Zolkina said.
As Ukrinform reported, Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 21 announced the recognition of puppet formations “L / DNR” and signed the relevant decrees.
In response, a number of countries have already imposed these additional sanctions on Russia.
