Mask requirement in the supermarket: works councils against it
Coronavirus
The works councils of the large food chains in Austria are now demanding equality with the rest of the trade when it comes to the mask requirement for employees. If a mask is no longer mandatory there from March 5th, it is no longer reasonable in the grocery store either.
“It affects the entire food trade – that’s why we are in the group: REWE, Lidl, Spar, Interspar, Maximarkt,” says Interspar works council chairwoman Sabine Eiblmaier from Salzburg. “And all colleagues really report the same thing about the commitment of the commitment. As soon as masks are no longer compulsory at events, in night catering and everywhere, it must be allowed that our assumptions, which already meet all 3-G, no longer have to wear masks either. It is assumed to be a very comprehensive concern of all. The tenor is always: Back then we were the heroes of the Republic – and now we are completely forgotten.”
So far no response to open letter
Eiblmaier emphasizes that the more than 100,000 employees and employees in the food retail sector did not want any extra sausage, but the same rights for everyone. So far there has been no response to the open letter from the works councils to the Federal Chancellor, Minister of Health and Minister of Labor. In shops for daily needs – including supermarkets, but also post offices or banks – an FFP2 mask requirement will continue to apply even after the easing on March 5th. In all other shops, the FFP2 mask will then only be “recommended”.
