It is on a cathedral square swept by the winds of storm Franklin that Yannick Jadot meeting held at Rouen (Seine-Maritime), Monday, February 21, 2022. In front of a few hundred well-wrapped people, the Europe Écologie-Les Verts (EELV) candidate for the presidential election outlined his program.
After attacking the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron on his record in terms of ecology, Yannick Jadot showed that the challenge of this presidential election was to know whether “France remained a country of climate inaction or [si elle] to take the leadership in Europe and in the world of climate action”.
“One euro in renewables is two to three times more jobs than in nuclear”
To fight against global warming, the ecologist opposes the project of the current tenant of the Elysée Palace to build six to fourteen new EPR2 nuclear reactors. The Penly nuclear power plant, near Dieppe, is one of the sites selected to host them.
Exposing himself during a press briefing organized ahead of his meeting, Yannick Jadot rejects the idea that nuclear power is a solution for employment in Normandy and the purchasing power of the French in the face of the soaring prices of energy.
“A euro invested in renewable energies, and even more in energy efficiency, creates two to three times more jobs than in nuclear power,” defends the former Greenpeace France activist.
La Chapelle Darblay, an “exemplary industrial ecosystem”
Yannick Jadot, on the other hand, shows his support for the trade unionists of the Chapelle Darblay who defend the maintenance of a paper-cardboard recycling activity on this industrial site near Rouen, the last in France to manufacture 100% recycled paper before its closure by its Finnish owner UPM, in June 2020. “We are by your side”, assures the ecologist to the union representatives met a few hours before the meeting.
The eastern bypass, “an old obsolete project”
If he is elected President of the Republic, Yannick Jadot will return to the motorway project for the eastern bypass of Rouen, validated by the government in December 2021 despite the opposition of the Rouen Normandy Metropolis and local residents.
During his meeting, Yannick Jadot also made proposals on the social level. In particular by promising that “there will no longer be a Frenchman or a Frenchwoman who will live on less than 920 euros per month – the threshold of extreme poverty in our country”, thanks to the creation of an income paid “automatically” from the age of 18.
“Thank you for braving the storm!” “Launched the candidate to the crowd, at the end of his meeting. With the hope, no doubt, of recovering some buoyant winds for the first round of the presidential election to be held on April 10.
