Toulouse. To fight against student precariousness, a solidarity grocery store is opening on this campus

In order to provide lasting assistance to young people in precarious situationsToulouse 1 Capitole University, in partnership with the Toulouse food bank, now hosts on its campus a solidarity grocery store dedicated to students. It will allow a hundred young people to stock up on foodstuffs and hygiene products at very affordable prices.
A project born with the health crisis
This solidarity grocery project was Started two years ago at the start of the health crisis. Due to the successive confinements, many students have lost their odd jobs and have thus found themselves in situations of great precariousness. In Toulouse, no less than 1,000 young people received emergency baskets every week in 2020.
The new solidarity grocery store, managed by the Toulouse food bank, will allow to help in the long run a hundred young people selected on file according to their income.
“No one should be left by the wayside”.
Help young people in the long term
In addition to basic necessities, selected students could benefit from fresh products, vegetables but also hygiene products such as dishwashing liquid or shower gel. The idea is to help young people in difficulty over the long term since they could benefit from the solidarity grocery store for one or two full semesters.
“No one should have to choose between eating and studying.”
The solidarity grocery store will be open to all students of the Pink City and not only those enrolled at the Toulouse 1 Capitole University. The latter specifies “that it is not a question of distributing parcels. The student remains active in his consumption. He chooses his products, recommended by grocery store staff. He pays for his purchases at a very preferential rate: 10 to 30% of the usual market value”. The foodstuffs and hygiene products offered on the shelves presented in the agricultural, agri-food and mass distribution sectors (overstocks, labeling concerns, etc.)
