When is it?
Perhaps a more well-known fact is that during the War of Independence in 1848/49, Debrecen became the temporary capital of independent Hungary. The proclamation of the throne, for example, is also connected with the large city of Hajdúság, as on April 14, 1849, the parliament declared the dethronement of the House of Habsburg-Lorraine in Debrecen. Five days later, the Declaration of Independence was issued.
Debrecen was then also called the “guard city of freedom”.
