Cracow. “Romantic Jacek Malczewski”. Exhibition at the National Museum in Krakow
The exhibition “Romantic Jacek Malczewski” can be seen in the main building of the National Museum in Krakow. This issue of the First World War is also available to see the collection of over 170 works by this Young Poland artist from all phases of his activity. Malczewski’s works can be viewed to the end.
As the director of the museum, Andrzej Szczerski, explains, the exhibition allows you to see Malczewski “a bit off-screen, in collections”.
– Until today, when we look at his paintings, we can provide ready-made film frames, excellent photos, or give scenes that we find in Polish novels. The cultural, visual and iconographic toposes that he developed are present in Polish culture – says Szczerski.
The exhibition “Romantic Jacek Malczewski”, which is viewed at the National Museum in Krakow, consists of over 170 works, including 20 sketches and sketchbooks. Among them there are also those inspired by the poetry of Juliusz SÅ‚owacki, fairy-tale themes and those illustrating folk tales. Visitors to the museum will also see the artist’s portraits and self-portraits. The presented works are primarily for the manifestation of romantic, periodic motifs in the period of Young Poland, shown with the help of a visual form. – Thanks to Malczewski’s collective imagination, imagination, romanticism – a Polish book by the NMK.
The exhibition is a chance to get to know the painter’s work, because the works on display come from all phases of his activity, incl. this fight in time after the First World War.

According to Szczerski, Romanticism is a constant inspiration for artists. – That’s how it is today. I think there is a lot of contemporary content in these pictures – the author of the director.
The items on display are not born from the collection of the Krakow museum, but also from the collection of works. – Hearing “Malczewski”, we expect a certain canon of works. Meanwhile, we are not beyond this canon – this is Malczewski, a bit off-line, always in collections, coming from collections and embodied – leadership.
The exhibition can be viewed from Friday (February 18) until the end of July at the National Museum in Krakow.
