“AS Monaco is always the first subject at family meals”
To celebrate the systematic presence of many Monegasque supporters in outdoor parks, asmonaco.com is continuing its series dedicated to supporters of the Red and Whites. For this twelfth episode, discover Kylian, living about a hundred kilometers from Bordeaux.
He is 21 years old, lives in Angoulême, is a student in 3and year of sports management and a name well known to Monegasque supporters and all those who watch football (even from afar) around the world. Kylian, a supporter of AS Monaco since his childhood, tells us about his passion for the Red and Whites, which he suits on many trips, in this new episode of Everywhere Always.
The first football matches I watched were those of AS Monaco in 2004. I was very young but my mother put me in front because apparently it calmed me down (laughs).

How did you become an AS Monaco supporter living in the South West?
I was born in 2000, so the first football matches I watched were those of AS Monaco in 2004. I was very young but my mother put me in front because apparently it calmed me down (laughs). These are really my first memories and, growing up, I really started to follow football during the 2010-2011 season, that of the descent into Ligue 2. As I still had memories of 2004 in mind, I I said that it was Monaco that I had to support.
Starting with downhill season, it must not have been easy in the playground…
I felt a little sorry for the Club at that time, it’s true. Especially since in my region there were a lot of people from Bordeaux, Marseilles and even Lyonnais. But I didn’t experience it badly, except maybe when we were 20th in Ligue 2… I was happy to support my team and I was really starting to take an interest in the history of the Club and it was a good argument to answer. So I didn’t experience this bad period so badly.
Did you manage to bring some members of your family into this passion for AS Monaco?
For my family, football is a bit secondary, but it’s true that they tend to watch the results of the Club a lot. It’s always the first topic of conversation when I come to family meals. Indirectly, without realizing it, they learned to love the Club. Anyway, they didn’t have much choice (laughs)! They know that the results play a big part in my mood.

Do you take advantage of your life in the South West to go see Monaco play in the region?
As I live far from Monaco, I cannot go to the Stade Louis-II every weekend, but the advantage in the region is that there is Bordeaux, Angers, Nantes and even a little further Rennes or Lorient. This season, despite the gauge, I went to La Beaujoire and Raymond-Kopa and this weekend I’m going to Matmut Atlantique. It allows you to see Monaco quite often. This season, I also came for the Marseille reception and I traveled to Lyon and Paris. And I will go to the Velodrome on March 6.
Among all these trips, is there one that marked you more than others?
I really like the La Beaujoire stadium, I find that there is a real soul there. And despite the defeat, I really liked the trip to the Parc this season because we were more than 1,000 Monegasque supporters. In addition there was no Auteuil bend, so we were the ones who really set the mood.
Who is your favorite player in the history of the Club?
The first name that comes to mind is Radamel Falcao. I experienced his arrival when we went back to Ligue 1, the league title in 2017, I loved his mentality… In addition, I already liked him a lot at Atlético de Madrid. The transfer window when it was signed was really crazy. Every time I read L’Equipe or France Football, there was always something crazy that happened: James Rodriguez, João Moutinho… It was really crazy.
And in the current team, do you have a little favorite?
Frankly, Aurélien Tchouameni. His level this season is crazy. Another who impresses me a lot and whom I have followed for a long time is Sofiane Diop. His development is stunning, especially his ease in controlling the ball. And then I don’t forget either Wissam Ben Yedder, of course.
Aurélien Tchouameni’s match in numbers against Lorient:
91 keys
11 duels won
10 accurate final third passes
10 balls recovered
5 aerial duels won
4 interceptions
4 penalty area entrances
3 tackles
3 crosses
3 fouls won
2 strokes

Are you a jersey collector?
I must have about ten. I have attached two, one is dedicated by Cesc Fàbregas and the other by Wissam Ben Yedder. Often I take the one that I find the most beautiful each season. And this year I’m going to take one with the Europa League badge.
I was at the comic strip festival and Ludovic Giuly had come… but I didn’t know it at all. I had seen Samuel Eto’o, which was crazy, because he had just presented his comic strip, but when I came home in the evening I was really disgusted. I had seen Eto’o but I didn’t care, I just wanted to see Giuly.

Do you have a memorable anecdote related to the Club?
I was at the comic strip festival and Ludovic Giuly had come… but I didn’t know it at all. I had seen Samuel Eto’o, which was crazy, because he had just presented his comic strip, but when I came home in the evening I was really disgusted. I had seen Eto’o but I didn’t care, I just wanted to see Giuly. However, Eto’o in Angoulême was a crazy thing (laughs)!
By the way, how does it feel to be called Kylian and to be an AS Monaco supporter?
It’s true that having the same first name, the same initials, the same skin color as him and in addition he was trained in Monaco, that does something. Especially since it exploded at a monster speed, it was impressive. The love I have for this player is a bit like with an ex: I hate him and I love him too much at the same time (laughs)! It’s a real pride that he wore the colors of my club, even if seeing him score against us leaves a little bitter taste…
Finally, how do you see Sunday’s match against Bordeaux?
The Girondins have just changed coaches and in the last match at Lens they took three in 25 minutes. So with our efficiency lately, except against Lorient, and given that Matmut Atlantique generally does well for us, I think we’re going to see some goals and that many will be in our favour.
