“Your health programs are desperately empty.” Wednesday, February 16, 2022, in an open letter published on social networks, the doctor of Pediment (Haute-Garonne) and president of the union “French Union for Free Medicine” (UFML) Jerome Marty alerted presidential candidates to the urgency of action in the area of health.
A lackluster state of affairs
In his writing, the doctor who gained public notoriety by chaining television appearances at the height of the health crisis describes a chaotic situation in health facilities.
“The number of stretchers in the corridor is constantly increasing, on these stretchers patients have been waiting, sometimes for several hours, covered with a simple sheet. All the emergency boxes are occupied, some for more than 24 hours, impossibility of to “up” patients in the services on which they should depend in view of their pathology…”
” In the city, in the countryside, it is increasingly difficult to find a doctor, patients are looking for days, sometimes weeks, appointment times are getting longer, months, sometimes years! “, Continues the one who advised on the candidate’s health issues (LR) Aurelien Pradie during the last regional elections in Occitania.
He attacks the political class
According to the healthcare professional, these dysfunctions cause a blockage of the chain of care, both in public and in private. ” The care has become abusiveyou have made abusers of us”, he says before continuing to scold the politicians:
“From the extreme right to the extreme left, in responsibilities or in opposition, you have integrated this mistreatment or you have accepted it. By your decisions, your acceptances or your intellectual emissions, you have mistreated the caregivers, you sabotaged their exercises, broke their work tools, provoked departures, and you made them abuse, with a big difference, they didn’t want it, they don’t accept it!”
Doctor de Fronton rails against a political class which “has only seen care as an expense, a cost for the nation, you (the elected officials and the government, editor’s note) have integrated its framework, and made health efficiency (doing better with less) a dogma”.
“Desperately empty” programs
For him, the programs of declared presidential candidates are “desperately empty” in terms of health. “At most a few marginal proposals, ideological, sometimes simplistic, always unsuitable,” he laments.
“None of you has the expertise of the system, none of you has the will to put it back together, the courage to rebuild it. I assure you, without this will, this courage we won’t make it, and from abuse to abuse, the collapse will continue”.
He calls for “massive” investment in health
The one who officiates on the side of the “Grandes Gueules” on CMR asks those who are in progress for the Elysée to “reconsider the care professions, to invest massively in the hands that provide care, to listen to those who provide care”.
“No one asks the question of a ‘profitable’ education, ignorance is much more spent than knowledge, the same goes for health, badly treated generates an immeasurably greater cost for the nation than the appropriate care “, he concludes by mentioning Emmanuel Macron (LREM), Marine Le Pen (RN), Valerie Pécresse (L/R), Eric Zemmour (reconquest), Anne Hidalgo (SP), Yannick Jadot (EELV), Jean-Luc Melenchon (LFI) and Fabien Roussel (CPF).
It remains to be seen whether this call will be heard by the candidates for the presidency of the country…
