The European Parliament voted on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, for financial aid which will benefit 297 former French Airbus employees. The latter, who accepted a voluntary departure, worked on the sites of Toulouse and the region Pays de la Loire.
They share several million
This aid amounts to 3.7 million euros. In concrete terms, the sum must be used to support these dismissed employees by financing training and/or by offering business start-up grants.
This request for support came from the French MEP (LREM, Renew Europe group) Valerie Hayer. It was passed with 655 votes for, 23 against and 14 abstentions.
“In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, travel restrictions adopted around the world have led to a general collapse of commercial air transport, in particular the passenger sector, and that, according to Airbus, this sector will not be able to fully recover before 2025”, recognized the European elected representatives.
Airbus funds part of the aid
Parliament estimates the total cost of this support measure at 4.4 million euros.
For the financial, the European Union will rely on the European Globalization Adjustment Fund for workers made redundant (EGF). This will cover 85% of the cost (3.7 million euros). The remaining amount (0.7 million euros) will be paid by Airbus.
