Toulouse, the end of the works rue des Polinaires
After months of work to repair the sewerage network, rue des Polinaires
finally must regain its usual pace.
“It’s very restrictive for business,” laments Victor, owner of Panuozzo Il Gusto,
an Italian sandwich restaurant located rue des Polinaires. The place opened in December 2021, while the first works carried out since September by the Water Company of Toulouse Métropole made it possible to interrupt for the end of year celebrations. The site resumed on February 7, and must stop again on the 25th of the month, definitively this time. “The workers told me that it should even be finished this weekend,” says Victor. “We can’t see the end of it, the street is often blocked”, laments the trader. The street art gallery owners have ended up getting used to this situation. “The city has to do some work, some residents have seen the sewers go up to their homes,” testifies one of them. According to some local residents, the fault lies with the many restaurant owners on rue des Filatiers, who pour their used oils directly into the pipes, clogging these pipes. However, all of the restaurateurs interviewed deny these accusations. “We store all our oil until a truck comes regularly to collect our cans,” explains Joffrey, the manager of the Bouche B burger restaurant. Same story on the Panache side or the kebab opposite. While the work is finally coming to an end, Corentin from the Tempête en Chantier bar, is amused by the “unexpected wink” reflected in the work, while the decoration of the establishment is inspired by them. If the rue des Polinaires will soon reopen to traffic, the passage remains congested a few hundred meters further, at the corner of the rue de la Fonderie and the place du Salin, where concrete buttresses will always have the building which had threatened to collapse in the summer of 2020. Access to two other buildings has also been closed since May 2021 rue des Filatiers. Another disappointment.
