On the Bastan promenade
The route along the river is a good starting point to discover the villages.
The 2013 flood, while devastating, did not only have drawbacks. It made it possible to create the beautiful promenade du Bastan, even if there is a bit of a superfluity. The city center and Sassi are now linked by a footbridge which did not exist. Until now, it may not have been well indicated, but she would have to be blind now not to find it.
The real start is immediately after the medical group and it is possible to park right next to it, except during periods of high tourist flow perhaps (100-space car park). The walk itself is pleasant to walk, but you have to be wary of the light wind that often blows here. Games for children or older, occasional exhibitions. You can then take the footbridge to cross to the other bank of the Gave this time and return to Luz by road, but it may not be pleasant. You can also use the promenade as a starting point for a beautiful hike. This is probably the shortest way to connect the Atlantic to the Mediterranean, but we won’t go that far. After the footbridge, turn right then take the direction of Sazos by a small path which will take you to this village. Then follow the GR10 to Grust, a pretty, well-placed village (classified as a three-flower village). There, after watching the landscape at the orientation table and visiting a bit, take the direction of Viscos, another pretty village. It’s a bit long and the trail is a bit narrow at times. So be careful. We end up succeeding on a track then the road that goes from Viscos to Luz-Ardiden. Go down it a few hundred meters to a barn (gite) and take the path down to Viscos. The wooden sign is not very visible but the mayors of the three villages have gone around the “walk of the three villages” and we will probably do it. Same remark a little lower when you find yourself on the road again. Go up this one for a few meters to find almost opposite the path which goes down to the village. After this, follow Sazos: yellow and light green mark; It is indeed a portion of the road to Compostela from Lourdes to the Col de Boucharo to go to Spain then. Return to Sazos where the loop is complete. At the exit of the village, take the direction of Sassis to reach Luz via the Bastan promenade.
