NÎMES How to better manage pain in oncology?
the University Hospital of Nimes and theAvignon-Provence Cancer Institute are bound by an agreement and continue their efforts on the occasion of the annual information day on hospital pain management.
The medical teams of the Center for the Study and Treatment of Pain (CETD) of the University Hospital of Nîmes and the Avignon Provence Cancer Institute (ICAP) are committed to a cooperative approach aimed at providing an optimal response to patients suffering from pain related to the cancerous disease and/or its treatments. A cooperation agreement has thus linked the two establishments since November 2021.
This partnership aims to ensure continuity of care, particularly for patients benefiting or who could benefit from intrathecal analgesia. These include the periodic filling of pumps for intrathecal analgesic infusion of patients initially supported by ICAP and already applied, but also, where appropriate, the very implantation of the device thanks to the patient’s support of ICAP within the neurosurgery department of the University Hospital of Nîmes (by Dr. El Fertit).
” This partnership binds us for the management of certain severe pain in the context of cancerous disease, with a definite advantage for patients residing in the Gard Rhône and monitored in Avignon.“, explains Professor Eric Viel, head of service at the CETD. He pursues : ” It also includes a second part which concerns the participation of our neurosurgery department for the surgical implantation of these pumps.. »
More specifically, in respect of their free choice, patients, under intrathecal analgesia, taken care of by ICAP and whose condition would require the performance of acts, such as mainly, the monitoring of the intrathecal analgesia pump , the regular, temporary or one-off filling of the pump (in the absence of the ICAP referring doctor), the titration and adjustment of the doses to be administered, could be offered by the ICAP to be covered by the CETD of the CHU of Nîmes.
” The practitioners of the two establishments exchange, as soon as possible, all the information of a medical nature necessary for the optimal care of the patients. specifies Eric Viel, thanks in particular to easy computer access. To facilitate the relay between the two establishments, the pharmacists of the two establishments will make sure to use the same medicinal preparations for the intrathecal infusions. ” We are also developing our cooperation, in particular through training actions, exchanges of experience, technical presentations, joint seminars, etc.“, finished Professor Viel.
