These Corona rules apply in Berlin from today
The federal and state governments decided on a three-stage opening plan with extensive easing on Wednesday. The Berlin Senate still has to approve these plans. On Tuesday, the senators united around Franziska Giffey (SPD), but already on further opening steps. The new corona rules for the capital come into force on Friday, and more will follow. With the flattening of the omicron wave, people in the capital can hope for a speedy normal spring. The Berliner Zeitung has compiled an overview for you of which loosening is coming now, which later and which Corona rules will continue to apply.
These easing will apply in Berlin from Friday
- 2G in retail is not applicable. Only the FFP2 mask requirement applies when shopping everywhere.
- 2G is also not available for all tourist offers such as steamer trips or city tours. Only the FFP2 mask is required under 3G conditions.
- In the zoo and animal park, guests no longer need an FFP2 mask outdoors. Here, too, 2G is omitted.
- In galleries and museums you only need the FFP2 mask. The 2G rule no longer applies.
- In libraries and archives only applies in the future 3G and mask requirement.
These easing of the federal-state round will soon apply in Berlin. The Senate has yet to approve:
- The contact restrictions for vaccinated and recovered people at private meetings have fallen probably gone in the next week.
- From March 4th should only have 3G in the gastronomy and in hotels be valid.
- discotheques and clubs (“Dance revelries”) are to be opened from March 4th for those who have recovered and those who have been vaccinated with a daily test or with a booster (2G plus). Wearing an FFP2 mask is also recommended here.
- From March 4th For indoor events, a maximum utilization of 60 percent of the respective maximum capacity will be permitted under 2G plus conditions. The number of 6000 spectators must not be exceeded. The upper limit for outdoor events should be 25,000 spectators and 75 percent under 2G-plus conditions. FFP2 masks are recommended at all events.
- In a third step from March 20th, the far-reaching protective measures and the home office obligation will no longer apply. To assess the impact of these far-reaching relaxations, the federal and state governments will meet next on March 17th.
- The recovery status will be raised again to six months in the coming days. The Senate has to wave this through.
These corona rules are still in force in Berlin for the time being:
- The personal limit for private gatherings of those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered will remain with a maximum of ten people for the next few days. If only one unvaccinated person comes to the meeting, the rule applies: A household may only meet with one other person from another household. The exception for the unvaccinated is valid until March 19th.
- An allowable limit of up to 4000 people at large events in closed rooms. From 2000 people, the occupancy of 30 percent must not be exceeded. The 2G plus rule and mask requirement apply (change only from March 4th).
- Outdoors A permissible upper limit of up to applies to major events 10,000 visitors under 2G plus conditions. From 2000 people, the occupancy of the event location must not exceed 50 percent (change only from March 4th).

- After a positive self-test it takes no more follow-up testing using a PCR test. As a second test, a test from a certified test center is sufficient. A confirmatory PCR test is only provided if the results are contradictory. to die PCR test mandatory continues to apply to people working with vulnerable groups, hospital staff, etc.
- At 2G-plus events, which also include gastronomy, people who have just been vaccinated and those who have recovered twice are treated as if they had been boosted. You don’t need an additional test. Vaccination or recovery must not have been more than three months ago.
- The following rules apply to cosmetics, massage, hairdressing, pedicure and prostitution: The test obligation does not apply. Even Berliners without a booster still have access. 2G plus continues to apply. Providers can choose for the plus, but between FFP2 mask and test. “If the choice falls on the test, people who have been boosted and similar cases, i.e. those who have just been vaccinated or have recently recovered, will be exempt from this test obligation in the future,” the Senate announced.
- It will be one FFP2 mask requirement in universities introduced (except for exams and for lecturers).
- Hotel nights: The 2G rule applies. Hotel guests do not need an additional test for the restaurants. (3G only applies from March 4th)
- Gastronomy: 2G plus continues to apply. Guests must be either recovered or vaccinated. For this they need a daily updated test. Boosted, newly vaccinated and recently recovered people do not need a test. The FFP mask must be worn and may only be removed at the seat. 3G only applies from March 4th.
- Gyms and dance studios: The 2G rule plus the obligation to wear a mask remain. The mask may be removed during sport.
- School and daycare: Contact persons (teachers, student educators, daycare children) no longer have to be in quarantine. After the occurrence of a positive case, contact persons must test themselves free for five days in a row. Unvaccinated teachers are the only exception: they have to be quarantined. In addition, three tests per week are mandatory for daycare children. Day-care centers can independently reduce their childcare groups. For daycare parents, the FFP2 mask requirement applies when picking up and bringing. Students of all grades are required to wear a medical face mask indoors. Students who are not vaccinated or recovered & get tested 3 times a week. The Senate’s phased plan when the number of infections is high is still valid. This means that the health authorities can close schools or order alternating classes. Daycare centers can also be closed. Compulsory attendance at schools will remain until February 28th.
- Church services: The FFP2 mask requirement is sufficient.
- societies: In clubs and discotheques in Berlin there is a ban on dancing until March 4th.
- workplace and public building: The 3G regulation applies in the workplace, as well as in offices and the like.
- local transport: The 3G regulation and an FFP2 mask requirement apply on buses and trains.
- Quarantine Rules: The quarantine for infected people and contact persons remains shortened. It is ten days. A free test is possible after seven days. Children and young people must be quarantined for seven days. A free test is allowed after five days. Boosted, newly vaccinated or recovered people do not have to be in quarantine as contact persons.
- Self-employedwho have physical contact with customers or other third parties as part of their job, & have themselves tested every day of their job. Those who have been boosted (and comparable cases, i.e. those who have just been vaccinated or those who have recently recovered) are exempt from this test obligation.
- fur There are also exceptions for the self-employed from the “2G plus test” condition when boosted (and similar cases).
