Since Vinci Autoroutes launched the project last November, motorists who take the A8 at night know the song well: traffic is modified at the exit of the Borne Romaine tunnel towards Italy, just before the exit Monaco (No. 56).
As a reminder, the motorway concessionaire has started work to modernize the signaling in this area. Objective: to install two gantries to improve the visibility of the signage.
Both directions of traffic impacted
After creating a nailed wall on the shoulder just at the exit of the tunnel, the teams will rework on the central reservation. “Due to the topography of the cliff, it was necessary to readjust the foundation created on this shoulder. It is therefore necessary to extend by 3 meters the massif planned to accommodate the “second leg” of the gantry on the central reservation”, explains Sophie Lethuin-Farge, communication manager.
This resumption of work will be carried out at night, from Monday to Thursday, for 15 days. Traffic therefore remains modified between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. This time, both directions of traffic are impacted.
“In the direction of Italy, the leftmost lane is neutralized. In the direction of Nice, the construction site will encroach on the left and middle lane.” In this sense, motorists must therefore drive on the slow lane normally taken by heavy goods vehicles, on the right. In the construction zone, the speed remains limited to 70 km/h.
Once this portion of the work has been completed, the Vinci Autoroutes teams will set about creating a new foundation at the Monaco exit in early March. This will house the second signaling gantry. motorists will therefore have to be patient (a little longer).
End of construction scheduled for May
“If the gantry manufacturing plants are not impacted by the difficulties in the supply of raw materials which could slow down the construction site, everything should be finished by the end of May.”
Installation of porticoes including. This operation will require a total traffic cut in this sector for one night. And after that will come the long-awaited time to return to normal.
The Rainier III tunnel closed at night until March 5
Since February 7, the services of the Monegasque State have carried out annual maintenance work on the equipment of the Rainier III tunnel.
Therefore, traffic is cut off every night, from 9:30 p.m. to 6 a.m.
This work is scheduled to last until March 5 inclusive.
In the Roquebrune area
Still on the motorway, Vinci is carrying out maintenance and inspection work on the tunnels in the Roquebrune-Cap-Martin sector until Friday. These interventions will require traffic changes at interchange no. 58.
To “limit the inconvenience to traffic”, the teams will intervene at night, between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
From this Wednesday evening and until Friday, the exit ramp from the Roquebrune-Cap-Martin interchange will therefore be closed in the direction of Nice. The same goes for the Scoperta service area.
Motorists wishing to reach the Principality of Monaco at night will therefore have to anticipate their exit upstream and leave the motorway at interchange no. 59, Menton.
