Hitachi Rail bags contract for signaling systems on board Sweden
Hitachi Rail has got one agreement to equip Infranord’s two yellow maintenance trains in Scandinavia with new digital signal technology.
These trains are designed to enable safe and reliable maintenance of the railway network, regardless of weather conditions.
The digitization of these vehicles will help the Swedish railway maintenance and construction company to better maintain the railway infrastructure in the region.
Under the contract, Hitachi Rail will be responsible for designing, building, installing, testing and commissioning the on-board signaling system.
This system will be based on European Railway Transport System (ERTMS) technology and Special Transmission Module – Automatic Train Control level 2 (STM-ATC2) system for circulating on conventional lines.
The ERTMS solutions are designed to operate on major rail networks and on board all types of train fleets, while the STM-ATC2 allows the ERTMS-equipped locomotives to circulate on conventional lines.
Hitachi said the combination of ERTMS and STM-ATC2 technologies will enable Infranord to perform critical maintenance activity on both conventional and upgraded parts of the railway.
Hitachi Rail Nordic’s Vice President Eric Morand said: “We are pleased to be able to support Infranord in the transition to digitization of its yellow maintenance trains in Scandinavia, with our signaling systems on board.
“These technologies are more commonly used on rolling stock for passengers and freight; using the technology on maintenance trains is an innovative step for both Infranord and Hitachi Rail.
“This new partnership is a real opportunity for Hitachi Rail to support Infranord with higher standards of quality, safety and reliability for its customers in the region.”
Hitachi Rail was recently selected by the public transport company AMT Genoa to deliver 14 new generation trains to the Ligurian capital municipality in Italy.
