David Guion appointed new coach of the Girondins before receiving Monaco
After coaching Reims, David Guion is the new coach of the Girondins de Bordeaux. Vladimir Petkovic’s successor has just signed with the Marines and Whites until the end of the season. He will play his first match on the Bordeaux bench on Sunday against Monaco.
It was no longer a secret for anyone, the formalization of David Guion to the position of coach of the Girondins de Bordeaux, in place of Vladimir Petkovic discarded last week, took place this Thursday, February 17. The Bordeaux club confirmed the news expected for several days now via a press release which specifies that the former coach of Reims is committed until the end of the season. Ligue 2 champion and voted best coach with the Reds and Whites, he is considered by the club as the ideal candidate in the mission to keep the team in the top flight. The task promises to be difficult for Guion since the Bordelais are now last in the League with the worst defense in the championship (61 goals conceded). The new coach will be surrounded by the current staff: Jaroslav Plasil, Gregory Coupet and Andre Monteiro.
- Will the Matmut Atlantique resonate with the cheers of the first victory of the year?
The maintenance mission will have to start this weekend against Monaco at Matmut Atlantique after a twelfth defeat in 20 days, a match which the mayor of Bordeaux will attend (ref>. mayor’s diary). Last week, the Girondins lost again with a heavy record of 3 goals conceded in the space of 30 minutes of play. Despite a burst of pride and two goals from Elis and Hwang, Bordeaux did not succeed to come back (3-2) and has still not managed the slightest clean sheet (match without conceding a goal) of the season. A defensive flaw that it will be imperative to fill as soon as possible for the new coach of the club with the scapular. The Monegasques meanwhile are currently sixth and are still fighting for a place in the Champions League. The step will be very high for the first of Guion, while the positive results will be expected very quickly for who is the sixth coach of the Girondins de Bordeaux since January 2018
