Venice, Miss Italia parades online but loses audience. “It’s an outdated format”
Miss Italia 2021 was a subdued coronation at Zeudi Di Palma, staged on Sunday 13 February at Ca ‘Vendramin Calergi, headquarters of the Casin di Venezia, five months late due to Covid. Already for the 2020 edition, the historic kermesse had abandoned national TV to go to Miss Italia’s social channels (the Miss Italia Official Youtube channel stopped in 2020), to finally switch to the digital platform this year Live Helbiz. The audience figures were not disclosed but, judging by the low media response of the hashtag #missitalia, probably one of the least followed editions in history. Perhaps accomplices are the times that exist, in which not even the angels of Victoria’s Secret have existed for four years, because beauty is a virtue, but we must think of it in a way that is not merely physical – explains the writer Irene Cao -. Aesthetics is a branch of philosophy and must be lived as an ideal. A contest that is based solely on physics passed. Maybe it made sense up to ten years ago, because it was a stepping stone for many artists who came out of a beauty pageant. But today we are all digital, all connected and this showcase has lost its founding value. Witnesses of the change that shuns the canons of pre-packaged beauty are the supermodels like Ashley Grahamwho, as a victim of body shaming, has claimed the right to have the body she wants, or Winnie Harlowwhich has turned vitiligo into a sign of recognition, or like Armine Harutyunyanchosen by Gucci as the most contested testimonial of the last year (after all, the change also involves choices that go against the trend of the crowd).
Competition

Venier: I didn’t know there was the final
