San Marino in Dubai in memory of Maiani
For the national day that Expo dedicated to her, a celebration of the Republic of San Marino was held in grand style, like those of the most important countries and trading partners of the United Arab Emirates.
The Ansa sees that it is not usual to see the Commissioner of Expo and Minister of Tolerance Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan take part in the events of the smaller countries, but in this case it strongly wanted to be there, not only: it asked from the stage of the square to At Wasl a minute of silence to remember the deceased former commissioner of the San Marino Pavilion Mauro Maiani, a thoroughbred diplomat, who created strong connections between the San Marino republic and the Arab Emirates. The minute’s silence was followed by a roar of applause from the large public who gathered at Expo to celebrate San Marino.
Commissioner Al Nayan stressed that Maiani was one of the most enthusiastic ambassadors of the Dubai Expo in the world. And he has built excellent relations between what is the oldest independent republic in the world, San Marino, and the Emirates, remembering that a part of Domagnano’s treasure, a copy of which can be seen in the Pavilion, is exhibited in the Louvre in Abu Dhabi. “UAE and San Marino have strong relationships and partnerships, especially the renewable energy sector and the commitment in the field of sustainability”, said the General Commissioner of Expo from the stage.
On a crowded Sunday, which attracted many visitors, the Captains Regent wanted to thank the Emirates for their humanity, their closeness and their support in these difficult months. The Emirates, they said, will always be able to count on the help of the institutions and the people of San Marino. Then the challenges for the future: Expo is a platform for encouraging discussion, innovation, Dubai a bridge between East and West, a meeting place of different histories, cultures and traditions, where countries can put aside disagreements, accept their diversity and promote collaboration.
One Sunday dominated by Italianness, that of San Marino, in Expo, with the morning characterized by the parade of the flag-wavers of the San Marinesi Crossbowmen Federation, and in the afternoon in the square of Al Wasl you could hear the Italian language on the notes of Romagna Mia and then of San Marino Goodbye by the San Marino group Giostremia.
