Festival Politics takes place this year under the sign of disinformation | Lisbon
The Political Festival will take place in Lisbon, between April and May and as a central information theme, and as a central information theme, which dominates the artistic creation grants the signature, today the organization of the right. With Cinema São Jorge on stage, in Lisbon, from the 21st to the 24th of April, and the Youth Center, in Braga, from the 5th to the 7th of May, the festival’s program, as in previous years, will consist of films, debates, performances, shows and other forms of artistic expression, with the aim of promoting a reflection on the processes and phenomena of disinformation, according to the organization.
“2022 aims at editing and defending human rights, defining citizenship, as an instrument for defining citizens to create their antidote against destiny from the exercise of their fundamental rights and an edition to information flows” , says festival co-director Bárbara Rosa, in a statement. The theme also dominates this year’s artistic creation grants, launched by the festival with the Portuguese Institute of Sports and Youth, to which “artists, creators and activists from Lisbon and Braga” can apply, to treat disinformation as a threat to democracy, under different perspectives.

“Scholarships for the purposes of promoting civic models, the creation of artistic arts and intervention for 30-year-olds residing in the districts of Lisbon or Braga”, and can “be awarded in the modalities of literature, music, plastic performing arts, video or training”. (“workshop”)”, reads the statement. At this stage, four creation grants will be instituted, each worth 500 euros, with an application deadline open until March 12.
“The challenge is for the topic to be addressed in one or more of the following dimensions: disinformation as a threat to democracy in electoral processes; disinformation as a factor for the polarization of society and the promotion of discrimination and marginalization of population groups; disinformation as an element that undermines citizens’ trust in the media and in journalism”, the organization adds.
The Political Festival is an initiative of the Isonomia Association, which aims to promote citizenship and the defense of human rights. Created in 2017, in co-production with the Municipal Equipment Management and Cultural Animation Company (EGEAC), “the festival has been part of the program since its first edition. [municipal] commemorations of the April 1974 Revolution”. In Braga, the festival with the support of the municipality and the city InvestBraga, will be present in this city since 20. The organization plans to reach more locations in the country during the second half of the year.
In 2021, the festival’s theme was Borders, totaling 53 activities, which mobilized around 1,200 people, in person, and more than 9,000, connected, according to the organization.
