The Slovak national football team under the age of 21 welcomed 2023 peers from Northern Ireland (March 25) and Spain (March 29) in Žilina in the March European Championship matches. The portal futbalsfz.sk informed about it.
The falconers in the current qualification played home matches in Nitra, where they first defeated Lithuania 3: 1 and then Malta 4: 0. However, for the March matches of the final tournament, which is hosted by Georgia and Romania, the coaching staff decided to change. Twenty-one players will welcome players from Northern Ireland and Spain in Žilina to the MŠK stadium.
“We will play two matches at home and due to unpredictable weather conditions in Slovakia in March, we want to have stable conditions for training and matches,” main reason for changing the stadium at home assistant coach Tibor Goljan. The Slovaks have something to return to both opponents in the C-group, when they lost a goal on their soil. In Lurgen, they lost 0: 1 to Seville 2: 3.
While matches on natural grass were played in Nitra, it will be played on an artificial surface in Žilina. “We have quality players who can play on both surfaces. Only when the matches themselves will show how it will affect the quality of our game and the result.” Goljan said.
